Each of us started in a family. Our lives have been shaped, molded or guided by the families we have been and are a part of. We have more than one family; we start them all of the time. Blood relatives, romantic relationships, friendships, sports teams, employees, coworkers, and partners – these are just a handful of examples of what a family can be.
Family is emotion. Strengths are reinforced; vulnerabilities are protected; losses are comforted; and, victories are celebrated. Our families share our feelings and experiences.
Family is fluid. What a family is or will be is constantly evolving. These changes may be anticipated or unexpected; temporary or permanent; treasured or tormented. Family is many different things to many different people.
Family is what it is all about. It is what we are all about. Our firm advises, counsels and represents Minnesota and Wisconsin families on all legal issues affecting them. Family law issues have been our focus for five years and counting; they are the heart and soul of our law practice.
Benjamin Kaasa started Benjamin Kaasa Law Office, PLLC in April 2011. The firm initially started without an office in April 2011. Ben took the time to meet with people at locations of their choice while working out of his home. However, in July 2011 the business found its way to the Technology Village in downtown, Duluth, Minnesota. For nine months the firm made its home in Suite 276 of the Technology before it moved to Suite 553 in late March 2012. The business has remained in Suite 553 at 11 East Superior Street since that time.
When Benjamin Kaasa Law Office, PLLC opened in 2011 Ben was licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota and the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Ben then expanded his geographical practice area to include the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin in December 2012. Finally, he joined the State Bar of Wisconsin in March 2015.
Our office began moving to a primarily digital presence in 2018. We still have the brick and mortar office location. We began emphasizing the use of communications methods, and storage, to connect people across the country and world. And unless you have been living on Venus or Mars, you know that March 2020 saw unprecedented change for Earth. We were ready to embrace the new change. We connected more effectively with clients through technology.
While most of my clients come from Minnesota and Wisconsin I have represented clients from across the entire United States. I have even helped a few Canadians with their legal affairs down here in the States. Regardless of where my clients may come from I am authorized to practice law in the following courts:
While we make regular appearances in the Sixth and Ninth Judicial District Courts of Minnesota plus Douglas County Circuit Court in Wisconsin, we have appeared previously appeared for our clients in the following counties:
Minnesota: Saint Louis, Carlton, Lake, Cook, Koochiching, Itasca, Beltrami, Stearns, Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Aitkin, Wright, Crow Wing,
Wisconsin: Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Sawyer, Barron, Burnett
My presence and influence in Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin has grown in the last decade. I aim to keep expanding on what has already been put in place. The internet makes a lot of things possible that did not exist ten years ago. I regularly meet with clients and participate in court proceedings through telephone and electronic video chat.
